We gather together to celebrate Ron Buchanan. A life well lived!
With unparalleled grit and determination, Ron Buchanan left a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of dog lovers for years to come. Saturday, June 25th we pay tribute to Ron Buchanan, Bear Creek Dog Park founder, visionary, and Friends of BCDP President from 2004 to 2015. The Celebration of life ceremony will be at the Bear Creek Nature Center, 245 Bear Creek Road, C.S., 80906 from 10 am until noon with a special remembrance at 10:45 am. Refreshments will be served, stories will be told, and love will be poured out as we remember the man with a vision of dogs running free in Bear Creek Park.
BCDP MOURNS THE LOSS OF OUR FOUNDER AND VISIONARY
Ron Buchanan, 68, a volunteer who led major upgrades to the Bear Creek Dog Park, died May 12 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Verda, to whom he'd been married for 37 years.
Ron and other local dog owners came together to form Lovers Of Off-Leash Parks (LOOP) in 2004 (later renamed Friends of Bear Creek Dog Park), which coordinates with El Paso County Parks.
Projects he helped organize at BCDP included full-boundary fencing, a separate small-dog area, a paved parking lot, a restroom with heat and electricity, creek drainage improvements, stations with cleanup bags, annual cleanup days and the recent dog memorial that also serves as a fundraising mechanism. Ron served as the Friends president from 2004 to 2015.
A memorial has been established in Ron's name at the Bear Creek Dog Park in Colorado Springs. Make checks payable to Pikes Peak Community Foundation, with Ron Buchanan on Memo line. Memorials can be sent in care of Dana Nordstrom 719-499-1335, El Paso County Parks, 2002 Creek Crossing, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
A celebration of Ron's life is being planned for later in June.
